Digital Marketing Presentation – 10 Steps Guide

Many new beginners don’t take into consideration what and how Google’s ranking factors affect their website. Simply putting there are 130 Trillion web pages indexed by Google. If you think about this huge number then the next logical question comes into mind is “Do I stand a chance?”

The answer to this question is “YES”. Even if the number of blogs in any niche is huge there are still chances for everyone to get their share of traffic from Google. This is possible only if you play by the rules of Google’s ranking factors. Being consistent and original in your content is one of the big factors when it comes to ranking in Google search. In this digital marketing presentation, we will further understand these points in detail.

Step 1

As we talked earlier about the number of indexed pages on Google, to beat those competitors you need to be patient as every website has an age of maturity. Any new website either a blog or product website takes some time before getting some traffic on their pages. This is usually because the newly launched website has to go through a Sandbox period.

To put it in simple words, Google doesn’t trust the new websites and there is a probation period on them, once they clear this probation period, they start getting ranking and traffic. Even after your website has come out of this period, it will still take time for ranking

Take Away From Step 1 – Be patient and keep working even if you don’t get any result in the initial months after launching your blog or website.

Step 2

The first thing comes first. If you are reading this blog there is a good chance that you have still not created a website for yourself. For those who already have a website set up, they can jump to STEP 3.

Domain Name – This is going to be the first thing most people will notice about your website. The best practice is to always choose a domain name that is easy to remember and sounds professional. Avoid using special characters in the domain name as they are hard to remember. Here is a guide to choosing a domain extension based on your website interest.

The chances of getting an exact match domain name are less if you are thinking to create a website in a popular niche, but don’t get disheartened if you get a different domain name as the effect of an exact match is less when it comes to SEO benefits. Next in this digital marketing presentation, we will learn about hosting.

Hosting – If you have a huge budget and can easily afford private hosting then go for that. Comparing it to shared hosting, private hosting gives you a server all to itself. Shared hosting usually requires sharing resources of the same server with neighboring websites that are hosted on the same server.

The hosting is a different topic and you can refer to this comparison guide to understand your requirement for hosting.

Content – After hosting and Domain name, the next part that comes is content on your website. Let’s see how to create and work with content.

Take Away From Step 2 – Analyze your budget for hosting and choose a domain name that is easy to remember.

Step 3

While creating content on your website either in form of a blog post or a product service page, always make sure that you answer the query of a user who has come to your website.

According to a study published on backlinko, the average length of content that gets ranked within the top 5 positions of SERP (Search Engine Result Page) is around 2000 words. This gives an idea that content that is comprehensive in nature satisfies the user’s queries. That in turn gives a positive signal to Google search engine about the quality of the page.

However, this is not a GO TO point to follow blindly for every page. Remember, the content needs to be comprehensive and well written covering all the points which would eventually arise around query searched by users.

Takeaway From Step 3 – Create comprehensive content that answers the queries and related topic users have asked.

Step 4

While creating content and thinking about the topic always think about the user intent. A similar topic can be presented in multiple ways.

EXAMPLE: While searching for YOGA, a person can come across a post which explains a personal experience behind choosing Yoga for lifestyle and another post which explains different types of YOGA poses.

If you analyze this situation, then you will realize that a person would be more inclined to click on a post that lists out different Yoga Poses.

If you can understand the intent behind any query then you can always make content/blog posts that get more clicks than the competitors.

Take Away From Step 4 – Focus on understanding the intent behind the query and create content around that.

Step 5

Learn from what has been done in past and the ranking factors affecting the Google search results.

Around 2011, bloggers used to create a lot of content that was low in quality and word count. It generally used to be around 300 to 400. The purpose of this strategy was to target more and more keywords on different pages in a shorter amount of time.

Google realized this process and identified it as spam activities going against their guidelines. In 2011 Google updated its algorithm and later it was known as Google Panda Update.

Most of the webmasters or bloggers affected by this update were able to get back only after improving the quality of their content.

Take Away From Step 5 – Focus on creating content that is comprehensive in nature and doesn’t go publishing too many content pieces of low quality for traffic.

Step 6

While creating content you need to follow a structured flow for maximum engagement. Remember you are aiming for users to spend maximum time and take an action that you want on your web page.

This can be achieved through careful planning while developing your content. Here are few examples to look at and follow, published on backlinko website as blog post templates

Take Away From 6 – Follow a structure for all the posts you publish on your website. This will increase the engagement and users will spend more time on your content consumption.

The chances are that the niche you have selected already has some other blog covering it. If you have figured out a niche that doesn’t have much competition then you have found a “Golden Egg”. However, In this digital marketing presentation, we are going to focus on a niche that has some competition.

The main challenge while creating content is to stand out with your content from your competitors on similar topics. Google doesn’t rank content that is plagiarised or almost similar to other content that is ranking on the first page.

For your content to rank, you need to write about the subject with points that haven’t been talked about before or at least cover in a better way than your competitors have done.

Take Away From Step 7 – Create content that is unique and doesn’t look and feel similar to other content that is already ranking on the first page of SERP.

Step 8

The concept behind YMYL – YMYL stands for (Your Money or Your Life) there are few subjects that are directly responsible for a person’s life in terms of health and finance. The wrong information on these 2 topics could affect a person’s life in a negative way. For example, Heath and Money related matters where the opinions of subject matter are required rather than a person who is running a blog.

If you are subject matter in terms of finance or health then you can go ahead and create a website on these two niches, although you will still need to establish your credibility on the internet before you can get a good amount of visitors coming to your website.

The concept behind having credibility for ranking is called EAT which comes from Google quality guidelines

Example: If you are searching for T-Shirt online then the EAT requirement is probably not that high but if you are searching for any information related to any disease then EAT matters hugely.

So, before choosing a niche try to understand if that niche is health-related or money-related or if that niche requires an expert in that domain.

Take Away From Step 8 – Understand the concept of YMYL and EAT for a better understanding of Google ranking factors.

Step 9

In 2018 there was a Google algorithm update, many websites lost most of their traffic and after some search, it was found that most of the websites belonging to the health niche lost their traffic.

Because of the low EAT score, these websites were not able to keep up their authority. Later on, industry experts called this Medic Update.

The takeaway from Step 9 – Focus on the niche that you are an expert in and create and increase your EAT score by contributing on a high authoritative website.

Step – 10

After content, the most important factor for increasing traffic and creating a successful blog is to create as many as possible backlinks from a genuine website by doing guest posts and other off-Page activities.

Backlinks are like a trust vote which are given from another website to your website in form of links. There are mainly 2 variations of backlinks i.e do-follow and no-follow.

Do-Follow backlinks are the one that passes the authoritative of one website to others. No-Follow backlinks are don’t pass the link juice.

The takeaway from Step 10 – Always focus on getting more and more backlinks from another websites. Make sure your get do-follow backlinks and for maximum benefits.
